MicroSporting Review 2022
MicroSports are not just a flippant past-time - they are a means to foster respect for other micros, to compete without aggression and to create a level playing field where even a humble and newly established micronation can take on their bigger and more established counterparts. Our aim is to foster a shared culture and friendly competition by bringing micronations together through sporting and cultural events Above and beyond random treaties, money making schemes, fake cyber wars and expansionism this is truly what the Micronational community is about. Look out for more MicroSporting opportunities in the coming year!

Back in July 2021 the Isles in sent out an invite to join in the FREE online MicroNational Football League 2021/22. The only rules were: only existing micronations can join; only one team per micronation; only join if prepared to actively participate for the duration of the season.
Despite a slow take up, weeks of promotion eventually led to an impressive 12 team-league with overwhelmingly positive feedback received during the mid-season feedback survey. Click here to see the list of entrants and their national football kits.
Using the tried and tested ‘Telegraph Fantasy Football (TFF)’ web platform and the English Premier League, the league involves picking a team from players throughout the EPL league and pitching management skills against fellow Micronational managers by managing transfers and staying in budget during the league. It also has a dedicated Facebook group. The league winner will be awarded a MicroNational Football League trophy when the season ends on 22 May.
We already have over TWENTY micronations expressing interest in joining the 2022/23 league which will be bigger and better than ever before! You can express your interest here.

Winter MicroOlympics 2022
February 2022 saw an extraordinary event in the MicroNational world, with Micronations from all corners of the globe coming together to compete in their own Winter MicrOlympics 2022 competition. Click the images below for a page commemorating this sporting feat and introducing - in their own worlds - the top three MicroMedalists who won hard fought places on the podium... we look forward to replicating this success for the Paris Summer 2024 Olympics.
MicroAFL league
Keeping with the Australian theme (our Prime Consul ex aliena is based in Canberra), The New Weddington Warriors joined an open (i.e. not micronational) AFL Fantasy Classic league – AFL being Aussie Rules Football, in 2020/21, as well as an AFLW women’s tipping league. Sadly, due to Covid, both competitions for this season were abandoned.
2021/22 saw the AFLW New Weddington Warriors finish 7th out of a league of 51 competitors, whilst the AFL Men again fielded a team in the full version of the game – they had a strong showing and were unlucky to crash out in the semi-final.
The 2022 AFLW Tipping team saw two more micronations join the fray (Lehmark and Shedingeh), and the decision was made to revert to the popular and simpler Tipping format in an exclusive micronational only league ”MicroAFL League” that commenced on 16th March with TEN micronations entering and a dedicated Facebook page, and competing for the MicroAFKL Medal - the majority from outside Australia without a clue of the rules but willing to learn and compete.

Cricket medal
This is especially close to our hearts as Cricket is our micronational sport – going back to the 19th century in the old Manor of Weddington. We were, therefore, keen to have a representative team for the Isles. In 2021 we entered the “New Weddington Isles” into the online Big Bash League SuperCoach competition. The Big Bash league is a state based annual Twenty20 competition that is hugely popular in Australia. The Warriors took part in an online competition alongside a number of macronational teams.
We were delighted to win the League and gain the BBL Supercoach winner’s medal!
A private league of 6 teams was set up by New Weddington in 2022, however turn out was poor and dominated by 3 ‘expert’ entrants. This will be reviewed for 2023, maybe using a simpler “tipping” format rather than full team selection which is complex.

Recent events taken part in include: the Canberra Running Festival, an aerobatic flight by Lord Watitune over Parliament House, the Canberra Marathon Event, and the Annual 2-Day Aussie National Peace Walk.

We are are particularly pleased that several of the running events have raised money for local charities, and in the 2022 National Peace Walk this year a team of 9 NW Wanderers raised over $550 for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
We firmly believe that engaging in such local macro-events and raising funds and publicity for macro-community causes, not only establishes New Weddington as a viable entity in the local area for individual citizenships and organisational sponsorships and partnerships; but also aligns well with our Community Engagement Strategy which forms Quarter 2 of our Strategic Plan.
