June 6 Set for Artemis I Moon Rocket to Roll for Next Tanking Test

29/5/2022

The Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft are targeted to return to launch pad 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 6, for the next wet dress rehearsal attempt ahead of the Artemis I mission.  First motion is currently slated for 12:01a, the morning of the 6th   with tanking operations to begin no earlier than June 19.The rehearsal is the final test needed before launch and calls for NASA to load propellant into the rocket’s tanks, conduct a full launch countdown, demonstrate the ability to recycle the countdown clock, and drain the tanks to practice the timelines and procedures that will be used for launch.

While inside the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), teams completed several major objectives, including assessing the liquid hydrogen system leak at the tail service mast umbilical, replacing the interim cryogenic propulsion stage (ICPS) gaseous helium system check valve and support hardware, and modifying the ICPS umbilical purge boots. The addition of hazardous gas detectors above the upper stage allows for additional visibility into any potential leaks during cryogenic operations.

The hatches, or access points, of the crew module and launch abort system are now closed in preparation for rollout. Engineers installed rain gutters on the crew access area to help prevent moisture from entering the crew module while the spacecraft and rocket are at the launch pad. Teams have started retracting the service platforms that surround the Moon rocket and spacecraft in the VAB for rollout configuration ahead of their return to the launch pad.

NASA will provide livestream views the rollout of the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft from VAB and arrival at launch 39B. For more information about the launch availability, click here.

The MicroNational Space Journey Starts Here!

13/4/2022

Okay, you’ve had the Micronational Space Program teasers – now for an Announcement!

We are inviting the micronational community to join us in a new era of micro space exploration – no kit rockets, helium balloons, computer SIMs or fireworks - but NASA’s upcoming Artemis I moon-shot that will be the first step in establishing a moon-base for manned missions to Mars.

So what does that have to do with Micronations? Well, the Artemis I mission is like no previous space flight, in that there are many ways our nations can engage with and be part of this unique adventure…
One key development is that you can now sign up – FOR FREE – for a ‘boarding pass’ to this unmanned flight, scheduled for later this year, bearing your name/title and even micronational name if it will fit (see Lord Watitune pass in the comments below). But this is more than a piece of paper; all applicants will have their name and details added to one of 4 data devices which will be taken aboard Artemis I as it travels into deep space, circling the moon then splashing back down to Earth 40 days later…

In the spirit of community, the New Weddington Isles wishes to join with all micronations in a unique opportunity to truly expand our horizons and work together on future Space developments.

We have subscribed to paid exclusive weekly updates and resources on the mission from NASA, as well as visiting the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex, part of NASA's Deep Space Network in the Tidbinbilla Valley near the Prime Consul of our micronation. Lord Watitune will be visiting the Complex and meeting Dr Korinne McDonnell, CDSCC Outreach Manager, this weekend (17th) as part of the launch of the New Weddington Isles' Space Program.

We shall be making this knowledge base freely available to all who join our “Micronational Space Program - Artemis I 2022” Facebook Group as well as providing weekly updates in the mission preparations and hosting exclusive virtual launch & splash-down watch parties via the Group. All we ask in return is that you comment or drop us a line if you sign up for the boarding pass, just so we can see how many “Micronauts” have joined the space race 😊 You can find NASA's boarding pass page at this link:
https://www.nasa.gov/send-your-name-with-artemis/

So what are you waiting for? Sign up to our Facebook Group now and book your place in MicroSpace history!

Thanks to the Principality of Woodlandia for highlighting this concept with the New Weddington Isles and who will be co-hosting the upcoming watch parties.
