Week 6 - Results and Review

28/9/2021

So, another weekend of the League is done and dusted and while the Premier League had some major upsets, the MicroNations League this weekend has been one of consolidation with many teams cementing their place in the league…

Top of the League sees the New Weddington Warriors top scoring with 44 points, though Shedingeh in 2nd place continue to challenge for top spot with an impressive 39 point tally. Lundenwic Lions also bring in a decent 34 points to stay in 3rd place, pulling away from Lehmark FC in 4th who scored a modest 31 points compared to 49 last week. Don’t forget we have now introduced runner’s up medals for second and third place finishers in the League so – along with the Cup itself – there are more incentives than ever to climb the league.

The first change on the League ladder sees the United Mathisian Kingdom who move up one place to 5th – partly due to the continued descent of The Isle of Lithua who are moving the wrong way with only 6 players getting starts this weekend and dropping to 6th:: level on points with Novascurra Jesters who remain in 7th place due to goal difference.

Having started the League in 2nd place, the descent of Lithua demonstrates how changeable the League is, with plenty of games still to go, and also the importance of checking what players are active and using transfers to clear out the deadwood.

At the lower half of the table we see the Pikeland Holy Crusaders continuing the make the 8th place their own  - despite winning the ‘wooden spoon’ this weekend with lowly 12 points – although they will be looking over their shoulder at Espoona who are the most improved team this week, scoring 28 to move up from 11th place to a more respectable 9th, and with 3 players not featuring, a few judicial transfers could see them continue to rise up the ladder in future weeks.

Making way for Espoona are Maslatonia, who drop to 10th despite matching Espoona on points, having just 1 goal so far to Espoona’s 9.

A score of 27 – the same as last week – is not quite enough to keep the Principality of Sealand from dropping a place to 11th, their impressive haul of 11 goals this season showing it’s not just about goals! Clean sheets for defenders and tackles / assists for midfielders count too…

And finally H.E.R. Saints’ 2 goals this weekend is not enough to make up for a current team with 5 players either on the bench or not selected at all. As with a few other teams  some major changes are needed, especially if H.E.R. Saints are to move off the bottom of the table.

For those wishing to make transfers there is a video showing how to do this at a post below.

So there we go, after a week of major moves, we see a more settled weekend in week 6. Don’t forget instructions for transfers are below, and you can tune into BBC Sports website to find out who is selected for a given game around half an hour before each kick off. Hopefully the introduction of silver and bronze runner up medals for 2nd and 3rd places will provide an added incentive to managers, as well as adding to the friendly rivalry 😊

A final note – the medals came about following suggestions on the MicroLeague Managers’ survey. The survey is still open and is your change to have your say on YOUR League; good or bad! If you haven’t already, it would be great if you could take a few minutes to complete it (it’s only 10 questions).
