So, after a weekend break there’s plenty going on in football-land – with most of the drama happening off the pitch, Villa’s Dean Smith playing musical chairs and moving to Norwich, to make way for Gerrard from a good run at Rangers and, hot off the press! – Solksjaer has just been sacked as Man United’s manager after a woeful defeat to Watford… time to ditch your Red Devils players or wait and see who steps into the role?
Anyway, back to the MicroNational Football League. A strange week that on the face of it, looks uneventful with NO league ladder position changes from last week, BUT take a look at weekly and seasonal points so far and there’s plenty going on. New Weddington Isles are hanging on to top spot with a decent 41 points, but the news of the week is Lundenwic Lions who clocked up a mighty 61 points and are fast becoming serious contenders for the league Cup. Another week like this one and they could be taking the top spot off New Weddington. Shedingeh turned in a more modest 38 points but are still in mix for the silverware and are chasing down the pack with plenty more games to go.
Lehmark FC Legends continue the steadily rack up the points and at 390 points overall will be looking to break into the 400+ club at the top next week, followed closely by Novascurra Jesters who recovered from a woeful previous score of 17 to match New Weddington’s 41, taking them to within 4 points of Lehmark. Could have been higher but had two non-playing players this weekend…
In 6 is the Isle of Lithua – quite frankly I’m baffled by this team, they have gone through most of the season hoarding their transfers and fielding a team of just 5 players on the pitch; yet they are somehow in the top half of the League somehow – their manager is either a genius or very lucky! In the lower order United Mathisian Kingdom stays put in 7th play thanks to a lowly points haul of 14, whilst Espoona do enough with 28 points to break into the 300+ club and keep on UMK’s heels.
The Principality of Sealand remains at 9 with a decent 38 points giving them sight of that 300 point barrier… an interesting point; Sealand demonstrate how soccer is not just about scoring goals – Sealand are the second highest goal scorers (23 goals), just one behind New Weddington (on 24 goals), yet are 9 places below NWI.
And bottom three are Pikeland Holy Crusader staying in 10th but with Sealand’s lead over them being stretched, and H.E.R. Saints are in 11th with 26 points this week. Not much to add to this, nothing to see here, move along… And finally, dear old Maslatonia manage a creditable 26 points follow their 9 point horror show last play week of the MicroNations league – to add to the point above, football isn’t JUST about scoring goals, but it helps! At a miserly 6 goals for the season, Maslatonia might want to bring in some ‘in form’ strikers/midfielders remaining stuck to the bottom and still trailing H.E.R. Saints by 8 points.
So there you go, business as usual on the surface for the MicroLeague, but plenty happening behind the scenes which should promise some big surprises and changes next weekend (a bit like the EPL itself😉 ) which starts on Saturday . Thanks again all for participating, I’m off to prep my Aussie Big Bash League T20 cricket team league (you can join the MicroCirkcet League here: https://supercoach.dailytelegraph.com.au/bbl/classic/?action=join-league&code=769167), have a great week and see you all for next week's kick-off.
