CHRISTMAS RECAP - THE MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE...

28/12/2021

So, Christmas is (virtually) over for another year! Hopefully you all had a wonderful break wherever in the world and however you celebrate it. But it’s time to switch off the annual Christmas showing of ‘Die Hard’ on TV, put the turkey in the fridge, ignore the Ashes and strap on those studs to see what Santa brought your team for Christmas…

Well at the top of the league it was a long time coming but it seems the Lundenvic Lions have finally found Santa’s favour - they go ahead of perennial league leaders New Weddington Warriors, just edging into TOP spot with a single point difference. Game on!

Next up Shedingeh is the Jolly Red Bloke’s Christmas favourite with a whopping 49 points haul to go third in the table and still well-placed to be a serious contender. Meanwhile Lehmark FC Legends are now sole members of the 600-700 club  - possibly hit by postponed games? Either way they’ll be looking for goals to get into the silverware zone.

5th and 6th in the top half of the table sees Novascurra Jesters and the Isle of Lithua retaining their places but posting pretty dire point hauls compares to week 16 – Lithua in particular dropping from 65 weekly points to 13 in week 17... has their strategy of making bugger all changes despite non-players and injuries finally started to fail them??

A low score from Espoona sees their 7th spot under fire – this week from H.E.R. Saints who leapfrog United Mathisian Kingdom (despite an ordinary score after last week’s top points haul), pushing UMK down into 9th.

Pikeland Holy Crusader, Principality of Sealand and Maslatonia all stay in their respective places, it’s business as usual at the bottom – except for Sealand in 11th who post a spectacularly low 5 points to take ownership of the wooden spoon…

So how did you do? We’ve all been hit by postponed matches which will need to be replayed at some point so some 2 for 1s possible in the future (i.e. 2 games in a week for 1 transfer). Are you holding back on transfers and hoping for now or looking to build a margin for 2022’s half of the season??

And no rest for the wicked (or the good for that matter), week 18 starts at 3pm Wednesday 29th December (GMT) and runs through to 4th January. Whether you’re looking over your shoulder, or focussing on the team ahead, I hope you are still enjoying the league - as this week shows; there’s plenty of drama to come!
