Week 3 MicroNations League Update: All the Latest Developments

30/8/2021

QUICK REMINDER – some teams may have players who haven’t made any appearances this season and are unlikely to feature. If you have some of these, consider using some Transfers to get point-scoring players in – you don’t want to risk falling too far behind at this early stage!! Swapping point-scoring players in for dead ducks is easy and covered in FAQs on game website – or you can PM me and I’ll send you instructions Just a suggestion of course - it’s also important not to use all your transfers too early!

Talking of which … the New Weddington Isles still top the league, although the Isle of Lithua is still hot on their heels in 2nd spot and seriously contending for the top; with Ludenvic Lions and Shedingeh remaining unmoved in 3rd and 4th respectively - however things are getting tighter between the top four with only 2 points’ difference between them in weekly scores.

Things are getting interesting mid table too: with United Mathisian Kingdom top scoring for the week to move up 3 places to 5th spot, at the expense of Pikeland Holy Crusader who drop to 6th despite a decent weekly score, and a bad day at the office for Novascurra Jesters dropping from 6th to 8th, one place below Lehmark FC Legends who cement their place in mid-table with a solid 36 points.

Finally, at the other end of the table, the bottom four are battling to break into the higher levels and a fascinating mini-contest is developing… Maslatonia hang onto 9th place, whilst posting the lowest team score of the week at 16 points, whilst a rejuvenated Principality of Sealand scores exactly double that to lift themselves from bottom spot to 10th in a good week for them. This pushes H.E.R. Saints down one place to 11th with Espoona who are now bringing up the rear – though they can take heart in a much improved weekly score: 21 compared to a lowly 8 last week.

NEXT WEEK is the International Break – this means that there are NO Football games next weekend, with the season resuming on 11th September. So no need for panic stations: put your feet up, think about any tea. changes you might need to make before season restarts and if you have ANY questions feel free to post here or PM me.

I hope you are all enjoying the competition so far and I look forward to more battles in the rest of the coming season – remember it’s all about fun, micronational camaraderie… and that all-important Trophy!

A dramatic end to a long weekend sees New Weddington Warriors FC topping the MicroNationals League

24/8/2021

Well, that was a dramatic end to the long weekend earlier; with a rampant West Ham trouncing a poor Leicester City.  So how did YOUR team do – rampant or trounced 😉

The New Weddington Isles FC are top of the league on 89 points and 7 goals (it’s not a fix, I promise!), whilst the United Mathisian Kingdom, with 6 goals, and Pikeland Holy Crusaders, 5 goals, show it’s not just about getting the ball in the net – being 5th and 8th respectively.

The Isle of Lithua and Lundenwic Lions join New Weddington in the top 3 thanks to high scoring 2nd weeks, with Shedingeh up in the top half of table and eyeing a top 3 spot in coming games.

The fact that this is early stages and there is plenty to play for (and lose!) can been seen in the mid-table tussles between Lehmark FC Legends an Novascurro Jesters , both are tied on 68 point mid-field  in 6th and 7th  - so no need to panic yet but need keeping an eye on 😊

Maslatonia and H.E.R Saints are still working on an assault on the league with decent and sturdy points; whilst the bottom sides are floundering. Espoona and the Principality of Sealand are currently in line for the wooden spoon award – Esponna had a particularly nightmarish week with single digit points and Sealand look to be getting a bit too comfortable at the foot of the table. Both might be looking for some tactical transfers next weekend to sort out the non-scoring deadwood.

Talking of transfers – how is every going with these? 40 may seem a lot but don’t forget it’s a long season and you may want to make some tactical transfers later in the season to pick up extra points, or cover injuries etc. I’ll admit to a couple of early panic transfers, but overall these gained me a few points.

Remember – this is YOUR Facebook group so feel free to post, share tactics, or just vent on this page!!

Next kick off is 12.30pm next Saturday 28th August – we are only two weeks in at the moment, so expect to see major league table changes up until season ends in May 2022.
Have a good week all, take care and STAY SAFE!

Soccer Season kicks off with first weekend of the MicroNations League Cup

16/8/2021

After all the pre-season preparation, the first – hopefully of many – MicroNations League Cup got underway at the weekend, based on the English Premier Soccer League. Boasting a decent 12 teams representing micronations across the globe this promises to be an exciting competition to win the exclusive Micronations League trophy.

So how did everyone do? It’s a close run thing at the top of the league, with the Isle of Lithua leading the pack on 42 points – congratulations to the manager Clare Alexandra. Following closely behind on 41 points each are the New Weddington Isles and the Novascurra Jesters.

The Pikeland Holy Crusaders and Dame Anni's Lehmark FC Legends have acquitted themselves well on 39 and 38 points respectively. The rest of the teams are involved in a mid-table tussle; though H.E. R. Saints on 20 and the Principality of Sealand on 19, start their seasons at the wrong end of the table. With its own Football Association and a history of playing live football matches, expect to see Sealand pick up the pace soon!

Of course it hardly needs saying that this is incredibly early days – and we can predict seeing all twelve teams changing places as the season progresses. Tempting as it may be to make some knee-jerk reactions after week 1 don’t forget – you only have 40 transfers for the whole season so use them wisely… on the one hand you don’t want to burn through them all too early, with none left for injuries, loss of form etc later on – but on the other hand there’s no need hanging on too long; as any transfers you have at the end of the season won’t give you any points!

This is where the strategy comes in - keep an eye on injuries, see who is getting left on the bench, spot the star scorers early and ditch deadwood when you need to… it’s only August and there’s plenty to play for before season finale in May 2022 (Covid permitting!!).

And remember – two key things…1) it’s a marathon not a sprint and 2) have FUN!

Look out for next week’s update (which will be on a Tuesday due to West Ham playing Leicester on the Monday).

Now off to the dressing room for a team talk!!

Countdown to Kick-off in MicroNations League Cup

11/8/2021

Greetings fellow MicroFootballers!!

Firstly THANK YOU for your enthusiasm and engagement in the MicroNations League! In it’s first year it has achieved participants in double figures… a great basis to make this an established fixtures in the MicroNational sporting calendar.

We have also been delighted with the imaginative football kit designs, they give a real sense of identity to the different competitors – please keep them coming!

So… with two days to go before first kick off it’s time to get down to business!

Most importantly we encourage you to read through the Game Rules and FAQS on the Fantasy Football site. Knowing how and when you can make transfers, what your budget is, transfer deadlines etc will be essential in boosting your chances of winning the League…

Tactics are important here – you don’t want to make all your transfers too early and be left without any in the event a player gets injured, but you also don’t want to hang on to them too late!

First kick off is FRIDAY 13TH AUGUST at 8.00pm (20:00) UK Time. If you are from  overseas there are plenty of free online time zone convertors you can use. Your draft teams MUST be finalised by then as unlimited transfers cease at that point and you will be klimited to 40 transfers for the season (max 5 per week).

First match is Brentford v Arsenal – remember it’s a marathon not a sprint so don’t feel you have to pick players for this game, there are another 9 games over this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Tips, banter, and questions not covered in the FAQs can be posted in the Message Board on the Fantasy Football league website, or in the MicroNations League Cup facebook group. Please be respectful – anyone misusing these forums or being abusive will be barred from the game.

I will send out an update every Monday (or Tuesday if there are games on a Monday) giving a write up on the weekend events in the League, this will be posted or in the MicroNations League Cup facebook group.

The team in top position in the League at the season will win the MicroNations League Cup Trophy, inscribed with their details. This will be provided and mailed to the winner at no charge to themselves.

Any pre-season questions now is the time to ask – on message board or facebook.

Other than that….let the battle commence and may the best team / Micronation win!!!!

Most importantly – ENJOY THE COMPETITION 😊

From Aussie to English – as one League Ends Another Begins….

7/8/2021

The New Weddington Warriors Aussie Rules football team have finished strongly in the 2021 – due to the complex system of AFL Finals we find ourselves going from mid-table to a free pass into next weekend’s Preliminary Final – just one win away from a Grand Final spot and chance to win the League!

What that means is that our Sports department have a free weekend which we will be using to finalise our English Premier League soccer team for the EPL season that starts this FRIDAY 13TH AUGUST. This uses an online set-up allowing for private leagues where certain teams play against each other. This year we have set up a MicroNations League Cup competition – despite it being FREE and the winner being awarded a specially designed trophy – take up has been disappointing. We currently have SIX teams registered, which is enough to commence but given the hundreds and thousands of Micronations out there, we feel there is so much more potential for a really enjoyable competition between many micronations. And above all it is FUN! We have fielded teams in general fantasy football teams in the past and it has really helped our sense of pride and identity as a micronation.

So you have nothing to lose, why not join up – if you are not football fans perhaps you have a citizen who would like to be your team rep?

Joining us IS FREE and couldn’t be easier - simply go to this link to pick your team and register: fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk/team

Then click “Leagues” -> “Join a League”. Under “User Created League” enter your exclusive entry code: CEO4P75W in the search box. A list will appear showing “MICRONATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE” – click “Join” and you’re in!

We hope to hear from you soon…

CALL TO ACTION FROM NEW WEDDINGTON!

3/8/2021

With just 10 days to go before the start of the English Soccer League – and the first ever MicroNations League Trophy where micronations can compete online as ‘virtual managers’ – we still have only 5 teams signed up.

This is a disappointing take up, and reflects a similar issue found by the Commonwealth of Dracul who had to abandon the MicroChess Cup as micronations failed participate beyond round one.

The New Weddington Isles believes that being a micronation is much more than setting up a facebook page or signing endless treaties. We believe that micronationalism has a real potential to be a significant and meaningful movement – glorifying in our diversity but also FUN! One micronation alone cannot create a movement, but events like this that invite friendly competition and cordial interaction are a great means of bringing micronations from around the globe together – and have much more validity than fake wars and talks of nerf guns and armed military.

We have decided that a MINIMUM of 8 teams are needed to make the MicroNations League Trophy valid. If we fall short of this by 12th August then we will regretfully abandon the League. I would like to thank the enthusiasm and engagement of the 4 other teams who have signed up so far, and sincerely hope that we can reach like-minded micronations among the 1000s who are signed up to the various forums.

Joining us IS FREE and couldn’t be easier - simply go to this link to pick your team and register: fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk/team.
