Delighted to say, the MicroLeague Trophy has arrived from the suppliers and will be winging its way to the Champion Daniele Belvedere ASAP. Likewise, the silver medal for 2nd spot - designed by our own Hon Kate Revill is heading to Michael Lewis of Lundenwic (and not forgetting the bronze medal for the New Weddington Isles of course ) - enjoy!
Well, when a motley crew of micronations embarked on this sporting adventure way back in 2021 who knew what twists and turns lay ahead? And there have been twists and turns – whilst Champions Shedingeh have always been in the upper reaches of the league it is easy to forget that the Isle of Lithua were contenders in the early weeks, and Lehmark who ended up in a creditable 4thplace were once mired in mid table mediocracy…
But before giving a final wrap up I must of course, congratulate the Champions and winners of the inaugural MicroLeague Trophy – Daniele Belvedere of Shedingeh. A worthy winner who performed strongly throughout, as did Mike Lewis’ Lundenwic Lions who occupied the top spot several times during the season – a second place silver medal is yours and is equally well deserved. If Daniele and Mike can DM me with your postal addresses I’ll get your accolades in the post to you. No such need for the bronze medal which goes to the New Weddington Isles - emphatically in third place following a storming score of 55 by the Lions in the final week.
So that's the top 3, what of the rest of the league? Lehmark FC Legends finish safely in 4th place, leading the rest of the pack by a healthy margin… whilst the Novascurra Jesters, once looking possible for a top 3 finish, take 5th place. The Isle of Lithua remain – where else? – in 6th place, I’d have been amazed with any other league position to be honest! While Espoona lead the bottom half of the table on 1167 points overall.
After much jostling and leap-frogging of places in the lower half, HER Saints come out on top in 8th, closely (but not too closely) followed by Pikeland Holy Crusader in 9th and Maslatonia in 10th…. The United Mathisian Kingdom spare their blushes by finishing 11th – one place above the Principality of Sealand who remain welded to the bottom of the league; the Burnley of the MicroLeague.
So that’s it, my friends… time for a quick pitch invasion and some flares and we’re done. It’s been a long journey but I hope you’ve enjoyed it (even Sealand!) and gained a sense of camaraderie through friendly competition with fellow micros. We’ll be back next season, bigger and better than ever and I really hope to see you all along for the ride; along with some new faces. For those of you who are in the AFL Tipping League there’s still plenty of time to get your sports fix, and for the rest of you – thankyou sincerely for taking part with such enthusiasm, enjoy your break, and keep an eye out for further MicroSporting initiatives
