New Weddington Isles condemns European Soccer Super League proposal

20/4/2021

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are among 12 clubs who have agreed to join a new European Super League (ESL). In a seismic move for European football, the Premier League clubs will join AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid in a "new midweek competition." The ESL said it also planned to launch a women's competition as soon as possible after the men's tournament starts.

This proposal has drawn widespread condemnation from fans, the FA, FIFA, the English FA, Governments (UK Prime Minister said "I don't think that it is good news for fans, I don't think it's good news for football in this country") and even British Royalty, with the Duke of Cambridge, who is also President of the FA stating, "I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love. "

Lord Watitune and the New Weddington Isles wholeheartedly agree with this stance, and endorse
Aleksander Ceferin (UEFA President)'s views that the European Super League (ESL) is a "disgraceful, self-serving" plan and a "spit in the face of football lovers...Players who will play in the teams that might play in the closed league will be banned from the World Cup and Euros. We urge everyone to stand tall with us as we do everything in our power to ensure this never ends up in fruition."

This has implications for the New Weddington Isles Official Football Team who currently field a team in the Telegraph Online Fantasy Football League.

Whilst details are still to be determined, Lord Watitune stated: "Of course, paramount to our concern is to join with other footballing nations and bodies to oppose these plans as rigorously as possible and we shall be contacting the ESL as soon as possible to express our outrage and seek further clarification on this proposal. At the same time we need to continue to support the long standing heritage of football as a sport of the people, and not penalise those clubs who are not taking part in this debacle.

"We endorse Ceferin's proposed sanctions and; in a worst case scenario of the ESL going ahead, we will seek our own sanctions including excluding all players in the participating clubs from the New Weddington Isles team for the 2021-22 seasons or, as a last resort, we will withdraw from the EPL league altogether, and focus on other sporting initiatives.

"We trust that tradition, heritage and the will of the people will prevail over commercialism, profit and greed in this case; and will be monitoring the situation closely"

Specially Commissioned Addition to State Artefacts

8/4/2021

His Lordship is delighted today to have taken delivery of a new item for the Isles artefacts and state symbols, in the form of a Sterling Silver Celestial Ring. This has been commissioned from Silver Cave Designs - whose rings are handmade and only made to order - on the occasion of His Lordship's birthday on April 2nd.

The sterling silver band is sweated/forged 3 times and then hand-textured using 5 different embossing hammers to create the organic and one-of-a-kind celestial textures. Each of these sterling silver celestial rings is unique from another.

As well as a cherished addition to state holdings and formal attire, being sterling silver the ring will also augment the Isles' Treasury's Silver bullion reserves.
