The Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Tara Cheyne MLA has announced the 25th Anniversary Multicultural Festival will be held in Australia February 2022, after its postponement due to coronavirus in 2021.
Each February, over three days under the glorious Canberra summer sunshine, something very special unfolds: Australia’s premier celebration of International cultural diversity — the National Multicultural Festival, organised by the Australian Capital Government.
More than 200,000 people flock to the heart of the capital from around the world to enjoy and participate in the annual event. The National Multicultural Festival actively involves more than 350 community groups, over 70 diplomatic missions and hundreds of national representatives through participation and sponsorship. The Parade of Nations is a highlight of the event, attracting over 2000 participants last year.
The New Weddington Isles are delighted to have been accepted to take part as a Nation in both the Parade (involving joining other nations in displaying our national flag along with the playing of our national anthem) and with a Stall containing information and giveaways to promote our micronation. This is a huge development for the Isles, as the Festival is organised by the Australian Government and so represents a recognition of our status as a valid micronation by accepting our representation.
