A successful Clean Up Day for the New Weddington Gardens today (27th November) on several fronts - the weather which had been stormy for past two days and was ominously cloudy this morning; played ball and stayed dry and warm(ish) for the arvo - even the sun made an appearance!
I counted 25 participants over the course of the afternoon - including The Honourable Mataina Mata from the NW Departure of Communities (2nd from left in first photo) who organised the activities and the BBQ, Siobhan Cosgrave (Manager of Barnardos ACT), Gunghalin Girl Guides, 13th Canberra Scout Group, Green Shed reps and a number of New Weddington Subjects from the ACT (and Lord Watitune himself of course).
A whopping SEVEN bags of plastic waste and dead foliage was collected and was taken away for recycling / disposal by the Green Shed team. The whole event last around 3.5 hours and all participants went away with a sense of a job well done and a pile of dirty laundry to deal with - as well as a sausage sizzle and a commemorative New Weddington thank you pack presented by Lord Watitune.
Details were taken and participants have expressed an interested in replanting and decorating the gardens now that the space is cleared as well as those who aren’t already, becoming Subjects of New Weddington. Similar events took place in MicroNations across Australia as part of MCA (Micronational Community of Australia)’s environment planning.
Now to focus on planting of a different kind - the planting of our flag on the summit of Mount Kosciusko next weekend with the New Weddington Expedition Team (and support from the Principality of Sealand whose flag will also be flying)!
