"Sometimes a little Diplomacy can be much more than swapping a treaty and posting flags on FB. I am sure most of us micronational leaders and citizens - as in the macro world - have looked on in despair and a sense of impotence in the cruel and tragic invasion of Ukraine by Putin's government. We can send kind thoughts, prayers and even arms but at the end of the day the Ukrainians are fighting alone. The New Weddington Isles and Lordship Watitune cannot pretend to have any real influence other than gestures of support. But if that is all we can offer, then so be it."
You may be aware that Lord Watitune, John Brookes, is also an established photographer in the macro world. Having recently published an image "Ukraine: The Long Road Ahead" in local media he decided to frame the original print and gift it on behalf of the New Weddington Isles to the Ukrainian Embassy here in Canberra. (ps no photography is allowed inside the Embassy thus the external shot. They generously promised a response by email from the Embassy's Chargé d'affaires, though of course all staff have rather more pressing matters...
"The gesture was well received," concluded Lord Watitune. "I wish we could do more."
