Tree Planting in the Principality of the Northern Forests

25/5/2022

As part of the New Weddington Isles' environmental remit, Lordship Watitune has engaged with a wonderful new initiative by Princess Cedrus of the Principality of the Northern Forests, whereby micronational representatives can made a pledge in return for the planting of 4 Norway Spruce trees in the Principality.

This is an excellent demonstration of how a micronation can make a tangible difference to the world around us in a meaningful way. We fully endorse this venture and encourage other like-minded micronations to get involved ...

We are delighted to welcome our latest Citizen of the New Weddington Isles - Sir Peter Gumley GIOL OM KLOC.

Peter has a long and distinguished micronational career, being the Count of Armstrong (Australia) and Lord Baron of Raasay (Scotland). The State of Armstrong was annexed into the Empire of Lehmark by way of Treaty on 29 August 2019, and Peter holds the roles of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Environmental Protection with Lehmark.

New Weddington has had long-standing and highly beneficial relations with Peter, and are pleased to cement this relationship  with the granting of formal Citizenship. Peter will retain dual citizenship within the Empire of Lehmark, and will continue in his roles and responsibilities there.

Here in the Isles we look forward to a similarly beneficial future with our newest citizen. Welcome aboard Peter!

Time to take a breath, relax and enjoy a morning view of Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex, part of NASA's Deep Space Network in the Tidbinbilla Valley near the Prime Consul of our micronation.

Lord Watitune will be visiting the Complex and meeting Dr Korinne McDonnell, CDSCC Outreach Manager, next weekend (17th) as part of the launch of the New Weddington Isles' Space Program. And no, this does not involve helium balloons, fireworks, computer SIMs or model rockets 😉

More to be revealed soon. Enjoy the video clip and in the meantime.... watch the skies!

EXCITING TIMES! Work has commenced on a Community Centre in nearby Haig Park, Canberra.

As mentioned earlier, through our relationship with ACT Multicultural Affairs and Communities@Work, the New Weddington Isles have been allocated a desk space in the new centre (which will have a kitchen presentation area, events hall, cafe and children's outdoor playpark as well a local community organisations offices space).

New Weddington will have exclusive use of desk, printer, wifi, scanner on Wednesdays 12-5pm and can hotdesk at other times.

As well as meaning we can have permanent consular sessions on Wednesdays, it cements our position as a part of the local community. Work is due for completion by end of year - a nice Christmas Present for Lordship Watitune! I'll post some artist impressions of finished building soon...

Lord Watitune visits Ukrainian Embassy in Canberra in "Small Gesture" of Support

21/3/2022

"Sometimes a little Diplomacy can be much more than swapping a treaty and posting flags on FB. I am sure most of us micronational leaders and citizens - as in the macro world - have looked on in despair and a sense of impotence in the cruel and tragic invasion of Ukraine by Putin's government. We can send kind thoughts, prayers and even arms but at the end of the day the Ukrainians are fighting alone. The New Weddington Isles and Lordship Watitune cannot pretend to have any real influence other than gestures of support. But if that is all we can offer, then so be it."

You may be aware that Lord Watitune, John Brookes, is also an established photographer in the macro world. Having recently published an image "Ukraine: The Long Road Ahead" in local media he decided to frame the original print and gift it on behalf of the New Weddington Isles to the Ukrainian Embassy here in Canberra. (ps no photography is allowed inside the Embassy thus the external shot. They generously promised a response by email from the Embassy's Chargé d'affaires, though of course all staff have rather more pressing matters...

"The gesture was well received," concluded Lord Watitune. "I wish we could do more."

LORD WATITUNE ‘OVER THE MOON’ WITH PLANNED NEW WEDDINGTON ISLES JOURNEY INTO SPACE

20/3/2022

This is not a virtual flight of fancy, nor is it fake news. Lord Watitune today announced the expansion of the New Weddington Isles into Space later this year. As he explains…

“Travel into space is something that can often only ever be a dream for both macro and micronational entitles. But that does not mean we shouldn’t dream. As such I am delighted to announce that the New Weddington Isles – thanks to NASA – will be represented on their Artemis I flight test of the Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft. A dream come true."

“The flight paves the way toward landing the first woman and the first person of colour on the Moon and is a stepping stone to the future for Micronations and for Macronations everywhere.”

The famous space agency has rolled out its new giant Moon rocket for the first time. The vehicle, known as the Space Launch System (SLS), was taken to Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on 1th March to conduct a dummy countdown.

If that goes well, the rocket will be declared ready for a mission in which it will send an uncrewed test capsule around the Moon. This could happen in the next couple of months. Later, astronauts Willclimb aboard later SLS rockets to return to the Moon's surface sometime in the second half of this decade and ultimately on to Mars. These missions are part of what Nasa calls its Artemis programme.

SO HOW IS NEW WEDDINGTON INVOLVED?

• Lord Watitune has taken up an offer by NASA, to join a select number of people to fly their names around the moon on the upcoming space flight.
• His name and that of the New Weddington Isles will be saved on flash drive, which will be taken on board the Orion capsule.
•Lord Watitune has received a virtual boarding pass.

Good luck to the New Weddington Wanderers Expedition Team!

Picture
The New Weddington Isles and The Begley Commonwealth are pleased to announce that they have secured an historic treaty between these two great MicroNations.

Negotiations between the Begley Commonwealth and the New Weddington Isles have been on going for the past 6 months. Both have worked very hard to secure this treaty as they are not often given by New Weddington in such pomp and circumstance.

HE President Begley said of this achievement: “It takes a lot of dedication to earn respect and recognition from the New Weddington Isles as they strongly believe in the values what make the Micronational Community an honorable place dedicated to the preservation of micronationalism in the spirit of peace for all mankind.

“Lord Watitune has been a gracious leader for his people and was the one who got the Begley Commonwealth involved in sports of which we made a significant impact scoring 8th overall in the 2022 Micro Olympics. We are proud of our newest ally and we look forward to standing alongside our fellow treaty member for decades to come.

“To the New Weddington Isles we welcome you as a cherished member and brother of the Begley Alliance.  Long Live the New Weddington Isles, a friend and family of the Begley Commonwealth,we welcome you with open arms.
“On behalf of myself and the Begley Alliance I wish you "Peace and Prosperity, for All Generations!" “

Brandon J. Begley
The Begley Democratic Republic and Commonwealth

Lord Watitune, of the New Weddington Isles added: “President Begley, it gives me great pleasure to have this signed Treaty between our two micronations.

“As you mention we are sparing with our Treaties but the Prime Consul's decision to enter into an alliance was unanimous, given your level of engagement, your values and your initiatives which add true value to the micro cause beyond that of micros that have been around much longer!

“I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial journey together in the micro realm. The Begley Commonwealth is a true asset to the micronational community, and we are delighted to count you amongst our friends and allies.“

Lord Watitune, Lord of the Manor of the New Weddington Isles.

We gained a lot of interest on the day, giving out our entire stock of info leaflets, with 102 people signing up for our mailing list and – of course – the New Weddington flag flying proudly alongside those of countries from around the globe!
