Busy Week Ahead for the New Weddington Isles

30/11/2021

The New Weddington Isles have a busy week coming up - Lord Watitune and several New Weddingtonians are taking part in a local community event with Canberra Connect for International Day of People with Disability on 3rd December.

This will take place at the Gundaroo Homestead and feature a series of artworks created by disabled artists through the 'Pictures of You' project, launched by Lord Watitune. We are presenting commemorative lapel badges to attendees - which will include Yvette Berry, Deputy Chief Minister of the ACT. Thanks to our Subjects who have been packing and preparing these badges

Then on 4th December is the New Weddington expedition to climb Mount Kosciusko, Australia's highest peak, and plant a NWI flag on the summit, along with the flag of the Principality of Sealand who are co-sponsoring the climb. Light rainfall forecast in the alpine area so fingers crossed!

Photos of both events to follow next week

New Weddington honoured at the inaugural MCA Awards Night

29/11/2021

A great event yesterday evening at the inaugural MCA Awards Night. In this online event organised by the Micronational Community of Australia, a number of its members were recognised for their contribution in areas such as the environment, diplomacy and nation development.

The New Weddington Isles were themselves honoured with an “MCA Distinction Award” for “their technological assistance to the MCA as well as their extraordinary domestic growth and capabilities”.

The Awards were presented by Zecheriah O’Hair, President of the MCA, and Senior Minister Rory McPhail. The President opened the event, stating:

“Good evening everyone! I'm very happy to be here tonight, and first and foremost I cannot understate just how proud I am of the MCA and each and every one of its members.

“Despite a chaotic and rather overwhelming year, our community has thrived under pressure, and in less than 10 months has quickly grown to be the LARGEST intermicronational organisation to be based in one country and the largest Australian micronational organisation on record!

“This could only be possible due to the amazing work of my cabinet, who I remain extremely grateful for, and who's contribution will remain in the history of Australian micronationalism long after they retire.

“The other great contributor to our success, and, of course, the focus of all our work, operations and programs are our valued and relentlessly hardworking members!

“From SYDNEY to PERTH and from MELBOURNE to MACKAY, each individual micronationalist working in this organisation is irreplaceable, for what is the Micronational Community of Australia without AUSTRALIAN MICRONATIONS and AUSTRALIAN MICRONATIONALISTS?”

At the conclusion of the event the President presented all attendees wih an impressive booklet: “The Micronational Community of Australia: An Overview of Australian Micronationalism in 2021”, detailing members of MCA and key achievements of the MCA during 2021. Lord Watitune, John Brookes, was again honoured to be personally thanked in the booklet for “his great work developing our website and helping to advertise the organisation and its members”. New Weddington Clean Up Day, 27th November Declared a Huge Success

27/11/2021

A successful Clean Up Day for the New Weddington Gardens today (27th November) on several fronts - the weather which had been stormy for past two days and was ominously cloudy this morning; played ball and stayed dry and warm(ish) for the arvo - even the sun made an appearance!

I counted 25 participants over the course of the afternoon - including The Honourable Mataina Mata from the NW Departure of Communities (2nd from left in first photo) who organised the activities and the BBQ, Siobhan Cosgrave (Manager of Barnardos ACT), Gunghalin Girl Guides, 13th Canberra Scout Group, Green Shed reps and a number of New Weddington Subjects from the ACT (and Lord Watitune himself of course).

A whopping SEVEN bags of plastic waste and dead foliage was collected and was taken away for recycling / disposal by the Green Shed team. The whole event last around 3.5 hours and all participants went away with a sense of a job well done and a pile of dirty laundry to deal with - as well as a sausage sizzle and a commemorative New Weddington thank you pack presented by Lord Watitune.

Details were taken and participants have expressed an interested in replanting and decorating the gardens now that the space is cleared as well as those who aren’t already, becoming Subjects of New Weddington. Similar events took place in MicroNations across Australia as part of MCA (Micronational Community of Australia)’s environment planning.

Now to focus on planting of a different kind - the planting of our flag on the summit of Mount Kosciusko next weekend with the New Weddington Expedition Team (and support from the Principality of Sealand whose flag will also be flying)!

The New Weddington Expedition Team will be undertaking a trail climb in Canberra's 106 hectare Namadji Park tomorrow. This 10.2km climb is in preparation for our summit climb and flag raising expedition to the peak of Mount Kosciusko, the highest mountain in Australia, on 4th December.

This will be a joint venture with the Principality of Sealand. Weather forecast is terrible for tomorrow - heavy rain and thunderstorm, so wish us luck!

Thanks are due to the Honourable Doug Fitzgerald, leader of the New Weddington Expedition Team.

The New Weddington Isles announces acceptance as member of the Micronational Community of Australia.

15/11/2021

The MCA was established on the 25th of March, 2021, with the aim of creating a forum for dialogue between all Australian micronations and promoting peace and economic cooperation between them.

Membership does not involve the renouncement of sovereign status nor does it affect foreign diplomatic relationships of member states worldwide.

Since its establishment the MCA has gained 17 Members and 4 Observer status micronations. Regular communications are currently conducted via a dedicated Discord page.

Lord Watitune of the New Weddington Isles said:
“Joining the MCA is a natural progression for our nation, we believe that micronations should have a real impact upon their local communities to be truly relevant, whilst not becoming parochial and engaging positively on the global micronational world stage.

“The Treaty of Canberra which underpins the MCA strongly aligns with our values of peaceful co-operation and resolution of issues, tangible environment activities both on land and in sea, charitable works and supporting community projects (such as the MCA National Clean Up Day and the MCA Christmas Appeal). We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with our fellow Australian-based states and, in turn, an enhancement of our co-operation with our global friends in the wider micronational world.”
