29/9/2021

We are pleased to announce that 3 artworks from the New Weddington Isles Department of Arts have been accepted for inclusion in an upcoming exhibition - PLACE unframed - at the Belconnen Arts Gallery. The exhibition theme is to capture places or times that mean something to us.

Due to current issues of access to the remote Isles themselves, these focus on the location of our Prime Consul ex aliena in Canberra, Australia.

With the Covid lockdown here this exhibition will now be online from 19/11/21 to 30/1/22. Meantime here are the New Weddington Isles' submissions.

New Weddington Isles Chess Set Added to State Artefacts Collection

23/9/2021

In June 2021, the Courts Baron (New Weddington’s decision-making body) came to an agreement that the New Weddington Isles State Artefacts Collection should include items that look forward to the Isles’ future as well as their past as a former Manor in England.

To that end, a unique chess board was commissioned by the Department of Arts. It was felt that a chess set was an ideal symbol – allowing for past and future icons in the chess pieces themselves; and reflecting the Isles’ values of friendly competition and strategy.

It was agreed that the Chess Artefact should be a unique item, with chess pieces added as and when relevant items were found or created.

Our Department of Arts and Culture passed the brief for this item to Creative Designer, Lady Katherine Revell; who also fashions our bespoke ceremonial medals, and we are now delighted to announce the finished article can be unveiled. See Chess Set page for full details.

Update on New Weddington Expedition Team trek to the highest peak in Australia.

12/9/2021

Now that the New South Wales government are looking at easing Covid border restrictions in the next few weeks, the New Weddington Expedition Team is making plans for their postponed trek to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko – the highest peak in Australia.

This is being carried out in partnership with the Principality of Sealand, who are seeking to fly their flag on the highest peaks on each of the 7 continents (having already conquered three: Everest, Kilimanjaro and Elbrus).  As well as our own flag we will be proud to carry and plant the Sealand flag also.

Whilst there is no definitive date for relaxing the borders with NSW, changes are imminent and we are keeping a close eye on developments. Meantime WE are taking advantage of the spring weather in Canberra to scale the area’s more modest peaks; starting with a trek around Mount Ainslie yesterday… more updates as the situation develops.

You may recall some time ago we announced a specially commissioned “New Weddington” – themed Chess Set to add to our historic items in our State Collection of Artefacts.

We have been awaiting  the specially ordered marble / onyx chess piece bases, and are delighted to announce that these cleared Australia’s international lockdown and arrived yesterday.

Our Department of Arts and Culture has passed these to our Creative Designer Lady Katherine Revell; who also fashions our bespoke ceremonial medals.

We look forward to unveiling the completed set – along with the story and meaning behind each piece – very soon.

Invitation for Micronational Leaders: FREE Environmental Zoom Conference on 14th September 2021

4/9/2021

As the world enters a critical decade for our climate, Commonwealth Member States and institutions  - including the Peoples' Forum of which New Weddington is a member - must come together: demonstrating a united front and decisive leadership at the forthcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow in November (COP26).

The Commonwealth has an irreplaceable role to play. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) make up almost half of its total membership. Citizens of these vulnerable countries are literally on the frontlines of the fight against global warming. Nowhere else does the climate crisis feel more urgent or more real: rising sea levels and shifting weather patterns are already posing serious threats to the livelihoods of small island populations throughout the Commonwealth.

The small island experience serves as a demonstration, and a warning, for what lies in store for the world—unless we act now.

The political and technical challenges ahead are formidable. To turn the tide on spiralling global temperatures States must loudly affirm commitments already made under the Paris Agreement. Collaboration on both adaptation and mitigation must be accelerated. And the international community must rally to deliver urgent support to the small island states that are being forced to carry a disproportionate, unfair burden. This group of countries has played a leading role in raising awareness of the climate emergency on the international stage and advocating for strong climate action. They have succeeded in building a common diplomatic discourse and influencing strategy. They need and deserve whole-of-Commonwealth support.

This Critical Conversation is a call to arms. It will bring together activists, thought leaders and policymakers to confront the challenges and opportunities ahead, most especially in relation to small islands states. It will interrogate the role that the Commonwealth could play – should play – in placing the needs of this group of States front and centre in international negotiations. A Message from Lord Watitune on the first day of Spring

1/9/2021

Greetings fellow Micronations! It is the first day of Spring here in the southern hemisphere. With its celebration of renewal and rebirth it is not only central to the Isles’ ethos (our motto is "reborn from land to sea") but especially relevant, with its theme of hope and survival, to a year just passed which has been a dark one for obvious reasons.

Thus we extend our deepest wishes – wherever you are in the globe – for a successful journey from day to night, dark to light and winter to spring. To mark the occasion we are sharing some images of the New Weddington Commemorative Gardens (a part of our Prime Consul grounds) which, after a long period of hibernation, is beginning to bloom once again. Stay safe and well wherever you are.

Kind regards

Lordship Watitune, John Brookes, Lord of the Manor of the New Weddington Isles
