New Weddington Isles National Flower to feature at Australian Spring Flower Festival

30/7/2021

The New Weddington Isles are pleased to have been informed that we will be represented at the Canberra National Flower Festival (from 11/9 - 10/10/2021). Lord Watitune has been accepted as an official photographer for the Canberra Government Events Team, in return there will be a modest display of the New Weddington Isles' national flower, the silver-leaf daisy (pleurophyllum hookeri) along with an information panel on our Micronation. Along with our presence in the National Multicultural Parade next year, this is another example of how Micronations can positively interact with neighbouring Macronations.  https://floriadeaustralia.com/

** UPDATE:
The New Weddington Isles is delighted to have obtained a set of Macquarie Island stamps issued in 2010. Being located in the Southwestern Pacific Ocean in international waters between Australia and Antarctica - as are the New Weddington Isles - the two locations share a great deal of common flora and fauna. This includes the Silver-leaf daisy (pleurophyllum hookeri) our National Flower. This is featured on the 60c stamp in the set obtained, and will be added to our State Artefacts Collection.

New Weddington Isles are pleased to announce the signing of a Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Recognition with The Grand Duchy of Flandrensis

The New Weddington Isles are pleased to announce the signing of a Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Recognition with The Grand Duchy of Flandrensis.  Flandrensis is much more than a simple micronation – it is an ecological venture, raising awareness on climate change and ice melting.

At the request of the Grand Ducal Cabinet of Flandrensis, the New Weddington Isles received a request for the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two micronations, which Lord Watitune and the Courts Baron (the New Weddington Parliament) have accepted.

HRH Nicholas de Mersch d’Oyenberghe, Grand Duke of Flandrensis said of the Treaty: “We only sign official treaties with other micronations on special occasions or when we notice a micronation who is in total alignment with Flandrensis’ foreign policy, climate policy, individual freedom policy, etc.

“Since a few months we have an eye on the New Weddington Isles. Within the micronational community they have an excellent reputation on diplomatic and respectful behaviour and spending a lot of energy and enthusiasm in developing the New Weddington Isles as a micronation and commitment to the environment.”

Lord Watitune, Lord of the Manor of the New Weddington Isles, added: “The New Weddington Isles prides itself on its commitment to both human rights and environmental issues; with a carbon offset plan, raising of issues through the Commonwealth People's Forum and interaction with like-minded micronations and groups.

“We have also been aware of the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis for some time and have been highly impressed with the work of HRH Nicholas of Flandrensis in the professional, pragmatic and mature approach taken to key issues of mutual interest and concern between the two micronations.

“Lord Watitune has always been fascinated by the still largely untouched continent of Antarctica - indeed the New Weddington Isles lie around 1000 miles to the north, in the South Pacific Ocean. He was fortunate to travel to the South Pole 10 years ago, conversing with a number of researchers there; an experience which had a profound impact upon His Lordship, as a place of nature largely outside of exploitation by humans and politics. Sadly Antarctica is inevitably impacted by human driven climate change elsewhere in the globe. We are delighted to partner with the Grand Duchy to work together on our common ground and raise this issue.”

Work continues on unique New Weddington Chess Set for State Artefacts Collection

10/7/2021

A while ago we reported the commissioning of a unique chess set celebrating the history of the Manor of Weddington in England and its rebirth as the New Weddington Isles in the southern hemisphere. This will be added to our State Artefacts collection.

Work is progressing on this which we hope to have completed by the end of August.

Mounted on onyx, the Queen is fashioned from a coin from the mid-Late First Century BC. It is an British Celtic Iceni coin (a tribe who resisted Roman occupation at the time) and shows the head of Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni. She has strong links of activity in Warwickshire (where the Manor of Weddington lay), and was eventually defeated by the Romans at nearby Mancetter.

The King is a King John penny (1166-1216AD). Known popularly for signing the Magna Carta, King John is notable in Weddington's history, as the original site of Weddington Castle may well have housed one of his many Hunting Lodges, which were built throughout the country during his rule. The certainty of a Hunting Lodge of King John being based at Weddington is not proven, although a number of local historical and media reports do refer to this.

Update on New Weddington Expedition to Australia's highest Mountain

8/7/2021

An update on the planned New Weddington Isles expedition to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko on behalf of Lord Watitune. This is being undertaken as a joint expedition with the Principality of Sealand, who are seeking to fly their flag on the highest peaks on each of the 7 continents (having already conquered three: Everest, Kilimanjaro and Elbrus).

Mount Kosciusko, is mainland Australia's tallest mountain, at 2,228 metres (7,310 ft) above sea level. It is located on the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains in Kosciuszko National Park, part of the Australian Alps National Parks and Reserves, in New South Wales, Australia.

The New Weddington Isles Prime Consul in aliena are currently based in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory). Whilst the ACT and the Isles are fortunate to be Covid free for now; New South Wales, where Kosciuszko is located, still has restrictions in regional areas. This includes a restriction of cross border travel to and from ACT.

As such we have postponed our expedition until restrictions are lifted and the severe winter conditions begin to ease. We hope this will be some time in September. We are watching and checking for updates on these restrictions and are ready to go as soon as the area is opened up again. More updates soon. We thank Prince Michael of Sealand for his support, encouragement and generous donation of an official Sealand flag, which will fly alongside our New Weddington Isles flag.

New Weddington Isles Adopts Zero Firearms Policy

6/7/2021

The New Weddington Isles is opposed to firearms and replica firearms (including nerf guns, gel blasters etc) in all their forms. This is because:

1) we believe ideologically that any micronation subscribing to gun ownership is falling into the politics of oppression and conflict as seen in too many macro national entities

2) talk of warfare and weapons arsenals is more in the realms of fantasy in the micronational world, and demonstrates a lack of serious intent.

To that end, and to bring the Prime Consul's policy in line with the laws of its hosts; (the Australian Capital Territory), Lord Watitune met with members of the ACT Police Firearms Registry today and formally handed over a replica pistol gel blaster under a current amnesty.

The Isles look forward to a period of diplomacy and peaceful interaction whilst we work towards to establishment of our nation on the unclaimed former Royal Companys Islands in the South Indian Ocean, when our policy will be reviewed.

Lord Watitune thanks HSH Prince Frei of Lorenzburg for unique gift

2/7/2021

Wonderful to today receive letters and letters patent from our close ally The Grand Principality of Lorenzburg (recipient of the 2021 New Weddington Isles Renewal Medal).

Courtesy of HSH Prince Frei, we have received proof of our honorific title from The Grand Principality of Lorenzburg. In accepting this gesture Lord Watitune takes on the rights to use the honorific of Baron Etrangere, John Brookes von Enevann of the New Weddington Isles.

Lord Watitune said: "I am proud to accept this on behalf of the New Weddington Isles and shall bear the rank with pride. The heraldry is magnificent and highly appropriate, especially the rampant bear on sinister - the symbol of our historic manor of Warwickshire back in the UK. We consider the Principality of Lorenzburg to be an exemplar of true micronationalism - realistic yet creative, tolerant, open yet defined, and practically active whilst being so much more than a facebook page and a flag!

"HSH Prince Frei in particular has been an exemplar and an inspiration in our first year of micronational status and we look forward to forging even closer ties with the Principality to the benefit of our respective nations and micro nationalism in general. The beauty patches included with our gifts demonstrate the unique character of our friends and Lord Watitune will be posting an image once he has mastered to application of these – in the meantime, HSH Frei will serve as a model for these.

We were also delighted to receive a copy of the book “Act Like A Prince” written by HSH Frei himself, and have arranged for this to be added to our state collection.

“With immense gratitude, Baron Etrangere, Lordship John Brookes von Enevann of the New Weddington Isles."
