Article 8
The Treasury and State Financial Matters
- The prime financial institution of the New Weddington Isles is the Bank of New Weddington, instituted on 6th April 2020. The current Governor of the Bank of New Weddington is the Lord of the Manor (who additionally holds the office First Lord of the Treasury as part of Manorial title) until or unless the Lord of the Manor may devolve the role and certain powers thereof to an appropriate Vassal.
- The two prime units of legal tender currency in the New Weddington Isles are the New Weddington Groat and the New Weddington Pound (currency code NWP, currency symbol NW£). The New Weddington Groat is pegged in value to the Australian Dollar, whereby 1 NW Groat = 1 $AUS. The New Weddington Pound is equivalent to 2 New Weddington Groats.
- New Weddington Groats are represented through coinage in denominations of 1 NW Groat (equivalent AU$1.00) and 2 NW Groats (equivalent AU$2.00 or NW£1.00). The 1 Groat design bears a laser etched replica of a one groat coin from the era of the British King Edward I on the reverse (symbolising the historic Manor of Weddington in England upon which our new nation is founded); with the Coat of Arms of the modern-day New Weddington Isles on the front. The 2 Groat coin bears a hand hammered replica of the front of an Edward I Groat, with the Coat of Arms of the New Weddington Isles hand stamped on the reverse.
- NW Pounds are represented through paper banknotes in denominations of NW£5.00, NW£10.00, NW£20.00 and NW£50.00. The design will incorporate as standard elements: the value of the note in NW£; THE Coat of Arms of the New Weddington Isles, the Official motto, the image and signature of the current Lord of the Manor (unless the role of the Governor of the Bank of New Weddington is devolved as per Item 1. above, in which case the note will feature the image of the current Lord of the Manor and the signature of the appointed Governor of the Bank of New Weddington), and other items, wording and/or imagery as stipulated by the Lord of the Manor. The notes will also feature a watermark and other security elements for the avoidance of counterfeiting.
- Stamps of The New Weddington Isles as issued by the New Weddington Postal Service shall be issued in marked denominations of ½ Groat, 1 Groat and 2 Groats, and shall be accepted as legal tender within the territories of the New Weddington Isles. See Article 9 (ii) below.
- In keeping with the environmental ethos of the New Weddington Isles, the coins will be made from recycled cherry wood with delivery from the manufacturer being carbon offset. Notes and postal stamps will be made from a special grade recycled paper. Further designs, denominations and currency alignments for New Weddington coins and banknotes may be produced at the discretion of the First Lord of the Treasury.
- The above physical forms of currency (being coinage, notes and postage stamps) shall be accepted throughout the Manor of the New Weddington Isles and its Territories (including within its Administrative Consuls). Such currency can be exchanged in return for global currencies at a base rate of 1 NW Groat = 1 AUS Dollar (as determined by the Australian Securities Exchange). Conversely, overseas currency may be exchanged for NW Groats or Pounds under the same terms. Applications for currency exchange must be made in writing (via post, webform or online channels) to the Governor of the New Weddington Bank who will approve said application AT HIS DISCRETION and who reserves the right to determine a processing and postal fee for such exchange.
