The Courts Baron have been discussing the New Weddington Isles The general agreement is that our State Artefacts should include items that look forward to the Isles’ future as well as their past as a former Manor in England.
To that end, a unique chess board has been commissioned, to be created by the Department of Arts. We feel a chess set is ideal – allowing for past and future icons in the chess pieces themselves; and is also an indication of MicroChess Tournament of 2021. This was a well organised and publicised micronational event by the House of Dracul yet had to be cancelled due to lack of engagement by many registered micronationals despite them signing up, after just 2 rounds.
This failure to engage with a tournament even as well organised as this does not bode well for joint workings on a range of issues – and a lack of engaging with micronationalism as a meaningful activity is one of its great current threats. So, thank you Stevie Luke of House of Dracul for making this attempt – we, for one, enjoyed the event and wish to demonstrate this as an inspiration to our own nation.
Back to the Chess Artefact, this is a unique item, the board enhanced with mother of pearl is completed and chess pieces will be added to as an when relevant items are found – for instance, the pawns feature our national animal, the seven-legged octopus (yes, these do exist!). Similarly, the Knight piece features a bear head – a reflection of the New Isles “merbear” featured on the blazon and a reference to New Weddington’s manorial past in England where the county emblem is a Bear and Staff.
Updates soon – we are going for quality over speed, and we look forward to adding this to State Artefacts Collection.
