With the Cricket season over and the EPL and Women's AFL drawing to a close, we are now able to commence our Athletics campaign for 2021. This is distinct from our virtual sporting code teams managed online, and will feature true New Weddington Subjects taking part in key National events.
This has the benefit of both greater participation in sports among Subjects, and raised profile of our micronation in the macro-world.
Our first event will be the Aussie Peace Walk, a charitable event which also promotes multiculturalism. Taking place over 2 days on the weekend of 27th and 28th, with distances from 14km to full marathon, this event is officially endorsed by the International Walking Association.
According to Rotary Aussie Peace Walk events director Chris Edwards, the aim of the Walk is to be a “multicultural moving festival”.
“We have groups of people representing different cultures and nationalities all walking together,” he said.
“The Finnish embassy will be supporting a Finnish team who will all be doing Nordic walking. The last time I looked there were about 35 countries who registered for representation.”
14 participants, including Lord Watitune, will be taking part as the 'New Weddington Wanderers' Athletics team in our specially-designed kit... this will be the 30th Anniversary of the Peace Walk and also leads into the New Weddington Isles' Renewal Day 2021 Celebrations (more of these later).
Our next event will be the Canberra Running Festival on 11th April.
