First off a big THANK YOU to all who signed up to win the MicroAFL medal – we got to double figures in league participants in the nick of time – not a bad response for a sport that many are unfamiliar with (think rugby with Mullets ) so I’ll be adding an exclusive tip or two to hp you on your way as the season progresses…
But for now – who’s kicking goals and who’s fumbling the ball? Let’s find out!
Well Westartica and Brighton75 take an early lead with an impressive 7 correct tips out of 9 - well done Sasha and Kirk, followed by a decent 6 points by Tony Wlliams’ H.E.R. Crusaders.
As expected in the early rounds, only a handful of points separate the pack with yours truly the New Weddington Warriors missing out on 6 points due to an agonising loss by 1 point in the final game of the weekend ), and MicoSports perennials Shedingeh and the esteemed Principality all on 5 points too, New Weddington leading the three due to “total margin” – you’ll see one game per round has a “margin” and a slider bar under that week’s listing.
Use the slider to guess how many points the winner will win by, if there is a tie on points between micros the one who got closest to guessing the margin won by will get the edge – so don’t ignore it! Make sense? No? Maybe? Drop me a line if still confused and I’ll try to explain better.
Anyway back to the league and on to the “bottom” 4 – all neck and neck even after ‘margins’ taken into account. 4 points is actually a decent first round score and with plenty more rounds to go it only takes a couple of good scoring weeks to surge up into the top half of the league…
Annie’s Lehmark Sports are still chasing that elusive silverware across several sporting disciplines – could this be their time to shine? Big hitting micronations bringing a touch of gravitas to the competition are the Principality of Hutt River (now presided over by Leonard I’s heir, Graeme I) and the Principality of Sealand who will be looking to redeem themselves after their showing in the MicroNational Soccer Cup, where they seem to be glued to the bottom of the league!
And last – but no means least – is the Begley Commonwealth. Again on 4 points this is a great start considering their last-minute entry meaning they missed initial games. Let’s see how the Begley Blitz fare here – certainly if the medal was for enthusiasm I’d award it to Begley right now
So there we go Round 1 done, you can soon get a sense of checking how the macroteams are doing on the "AFL Ladder” section to the right of the tipping pages.
Now have a breather before Round 2 on March 4th
