New Weddington Warriors - Women's AFL league comes to a close (nearly)

2/4/2021

The first ever season of the 'New Weddington Warriors' women's AFL (Aussie Rules Football) team has now come to a close.  Whilst in the macro-world the finals are still to come, the virtual platform only offers a 'tipping' competition of the the first 9 rounds - rather than a full "fantasy manager" online format as offered in the Men's league. We hope that the popularity of the women's game will continue to improve to the point where a full competition is available; in the meantime we will continue to support the Tipping competition (where outcomes of matches are predicted for points, rather than strategically placing players) - and of course have just kicked off the Men's full "fantasy football" season where they sit at 12th place in a competition of 20 teams after 3 rounds.

Back to the Women's team, as trailblazers for the nation in AFL they were consistently in the top 5 and although a final two weeks saw a dropping off in form, they still managed a 7th place spot in the "Carla's Comp" virtual game - even more impressive when considering the league consisted of 51 teams!!

Due to a technical glitch we are just waiting on final confirmation of this end of season score, however either way the Isles' Department of Sports extend our congratulations to the team and look forward to the Women improving on their impressive debut next season - hopefully in a full virtual competition!
